Your seven small beginnings

A Root for each day

You can read the practices here at any time. The emails offer a gentle daily rhythm.

01The Gut MicrobiomeNotice nourishment

Your gut is home to a living community. Begin with curiosity about the food and rhythms already present in your life.

Your practice

At one familiar meal, pause for the first few mouthfuls. Notice flavour, texture and your sense of comfort. Choose foods you already tolerate; today is about attention, not changing your diet.

Your reflection

What helped this meal feel nourishing or unhurried?

02The Vagus NerveMake room for a pause

The vagus nerve participates in communication between the brain and body. This gentle practice explores settling without trying to force a particular state.

Your practice

Sit comfortably with support beneath you. Look around and notice three ordinary things that feel neutral or pleasant. Let your breathing find its own pace for a minute. Keep your eyes open if that feels better.

Your reflection

What did I notice when I gave myself permission to pause?

03Nutrition and HydrationMake nourishment easier

Nourishment involves access, enjoyment, personal needs and the living systems that provide our food and water.

Your practice

Choose one small preparation for your next meal: set out a familiar nourishing ingredient, plan a simple meal, or make drinking water easy to reach. Follow any dietary or fluid guidance you have been given.

Your reflection

What small preparation made caring for myself easier?

04Sunlight, Sleep and Circadian RhythmsNotice your daily rhythm

Light and darkness are part of the daily environment in which we live. Today, notice the transition into your waking day.

Your practice

Spend a few comfortable minutes noticing outdoor daylight after waking, in a shaded or sheltered place if available. A view from a window is an accessible alternative. Do not look at the sun, and use your usual sun protection.

Your reflection

What is one realistic cue that could give my day a steadier rhythm?

05Breath and Environmental MicrobiotaMeet the living world

We live in continuous relationship with our surroundings. This is an invitation to sensory contact with a comfortable environment, not deliberate exposure to microbes.

Your practice

Pause in a pleasant outdoor place, or beside a window if that suits you better. Notice one sound, one colour and the feeling of the air while breathing normally. Choose clean air and avoid smoke, dust or allergens that trouble you.

Your reflection

Which part of my surroundings invited my attention to soften?

06Movement and Physical FunctionFind a movement that fits

Movement is part of ordinary participation in life. Your starting point is your own capacity today.

Your practice

Add a brief, familiar movement break to something you already do: an easy walk, comfortable seated movement or a gentle change of position. Keep it within your usual abilities and any professional guidance. Stop if it feels uncomfortable.

Your reflection

Which movement felt achievable enough to repeat?

07The Energetic TerrainBring the Roots together

The Energetic Terrain invites attention to lived vitality: warmth, rest, emotion, posture, connection, presence and the felt quality of being alive.

Your practice

Choose the most supportive small practice from this week and repeat it. As you finish, notice how your body, attention and surroundings meet. Decide where that one practice could belong in the coming week.

Your reflection

Which practice will I carry forward, and what will help me remember it?
